The Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times are throwing open our doors to budding young journalists looking to get their first taste of the world of news.

Our publications are taking part in the Young Reporter Scheme, a national scheme which gives school students in years 10 to 13 an opportunity to write for a real online newspaper. They will write eight articles over eight months, all of which are published on the designated Young Reporter page.

By taking part, students will get the chance to write about the hard-hitting issues that are important to them, cover press events and attend lectures – all whilst still at school.

“This was a fantastic opportunity that helped me not only learn more about my local community, but to understand time management and real world deadlines,” said student Libby Riggs. “I would highly recommend this scheme to anybody looking to pursue journalism.”

“I’ve had absolutely nothing to lose by partaking in the scheme and neither do you,” said Sabbir Ahmed. “It has helped me explore my future career choices - through this opportunity, I’ve learnt how it feels to be a journalist. Now, I have a clearer image of what career I want to pursue thanks to the scheme.”

As two of the biggest daily newspapers in Suffolk, we are keen to share our experience with youngsters who share our passion for news, and would encourage them to sign up
