Ipswich Town U21s returning to winning ways in the Professional Development League Two South after beating Swansea City 3-2 at Playford Road this afternoon.

John McGreal's side were without a win in four league games but won their most recent fixture, the 2-0 victory at Cardiff City in the Premier League Cup last week.

The young Blues got off to a fast start, opening the scoring in the seventh minute through Ayyuba Jambang.

Town the doubled their lead in the 14th minute when Tudor Mendel-Idowu whipped in a corner from the right which found Ash Boatswain who beat two defenders to fire home.

Moments later, it was 3-0 for Town as Mendel-Idowu was involved once again as he played the ball into Tommy Taylor, who calmy slotted home into the net for his ninth goal of the season.

It was an incredible start for the young Blues who had the Welsh side on the ropes and could've scored more in the first half but didn't finish off those chances.

The visitors pulled a goal back ten minutes after the restart via Seb Dabrowski as the rain started to pour down at the training ground.

There was a bit of an momentum swing in the second half as the visitors pushed to get back into the game but Town still had chances of their own to extend their lead.

It was a very end to end game in the final stages, with the Swans netting their second of the game via Morgan Bates in the 82nd minute. They nearly equalised in stoppage time when they had the ball in the net but Richard Faayke was adjudged to be offside.

Town were able to defend their lead in the closing stages in a hard fought win with plenty of players putting in standout performances.

The young Blues had a trialist in the starting XI in the form of Archie Baptiste, a 19-year-old defender from Spurs. He made some impressive slide tackles in the first half and, as a whole, did okay throughout the 90 minutes.

It was good to see Ryan Carr back in action, who had been on loan at Gateshead but struggled to get minutes for the National League side. The midfielder battled well in the middle of the park.

Overall, it was a good performance for Town who created many chances with Mendel-Idowu being a threat throughout before he was substituted and Taylor putting in another good shift up top, taking his goal well.

The young Blues return to action when they travel to Millwall next week.
