Former Liverpool midfielder and football pundit Danny Murphy has picked Liam Delap as the ‘obvious long-term successor’ to Harry Kane in the England national team following his stellar performances for Ipswich Town.

The striker has been in fine form for the Blues, having signed for them over the summer from Manchester City after a number of loan spells in the Championship.

He currently has six goals and one assist to his name in the Premier League, having also been praised for his physicality, aggression and work off the ball. The 21-year-old could've scored twice in yesterday's 1-1 draw against Manchester United, but was denied by André Onana, who made two outstanding saves.

Murphy has been impressed by Delap so far this season, believing him to be the ‘best young English striker’ at the moment and claiming that he’ll only improve as he gains more experience in the top flight.

“He’s got a lot of qualities,” he said on BBC’s Match of the Day 2. “I’ve seen him quite a lot this season and I’d probably go as far as to say that, for me, he’s the obvious long-term successor to Kane.

“I think he’s the best young English striker out there. I know he’s got a bit to learn, and wisdom comes with experience and game time in this league, but he’s got all the attributes to be a top international player.

“I just don’t see a weakness for him. He’s scored enough goals in a struggling side, really, but he gets a lot of chances and he’ll score more.

“He’s just got that lovely balance between physical and technical. Rarely you get both.

“He’s really just super talented.”
