Former Ipswich Town loanee David Stockdale has been sacked as manager of Blyth Spartans, just 48 days after being appointed.

The 38-year-old took up his first managerial role back in September after a brief spell as a caretaker following the departure of Nolberto Solano in August.Β

Stockdale oversaw league wins against Workington and Stockton Town as caretaker, but he was winless in the league during his seven-game spell as permanent boss which has seen the Spartans slip to the bottom of the Northern Premier Division table.Β

Following a change in ownership at Croft Park, the club have confirmed that Stockdale is one of four staff members to be leaving the club.

Irfan Liaquat, who took over Blyth as owner just six months ago, has agreed a deal to sell the football club to local businessman Martin Trinder.Β

On his departure, Stockdale said on social media: "Gutted to have been SACKED. Not what I wanted or worked for.

"It’s been a great time and worked with some great people. Hopefully I can try somewhere else.

"I wish Blyth Spartans all the best but more so the staff and players I had while there. Truly great people."

The former goalkeeper spent the first half of the 2011/12 season with the Blues on loan from Fulham, making 11 appearances during his spell at Portman Road.Β
