Former Ipswich Town midfielder Lee Evans has great memories from his spell in Suffolk, despite struggling with injuries during his time at the club.

Evans joined the Blues from Wigan Athletic back in 2021, making 61 appearances for them in all competitions and helping them to secure promotion to the Championship in 2023.

His spell in Suffolk came to an end after he picked up an injury in a 1-1 draw away at Huddersfield Town in September last year, which eventually saw him released by mutual consent back in February.

The Welshman, 30, then had a brief stint at Portsmouth before signing for League One Blackpool in the summer.

However, he still looks back on his stint at Town in a positive light – piling praise on manager Kieran McKenna.

“I loved my time at Ipswich – it is a special club; they have good people in the right places at the minute,” he told the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star via Sky Bet.

“They have arguably one of the best managers in the country at the moment, and it’s a club on an upward trajectory that is flying. It will be difficult for them in the Premier League, but if one man can keep them up, it will be him.

“Overall, I loved my time there – I was a bit unfortunate with injuries, but that’s football, and I only have positive things to say about Ipswich.”

Asked whether he’s been able to watch much of Ipswich in the Premier League, and whether he believes they have what it takes to survive in the top flight, Evans replied: “I watched Ipswich’s first game against Liverpool where they performed well.

“It’s going to be tough. Their home form will be vital for them this season and they have to make Portman Road a fortress.

“It’s going to be hard, but I really hope they can stay in the league.”
