Ipswich Town came out on the wrong end of a crazy game at Brentford, losing 4-3 at the Gtech Community Stadium. Alex Jones provides his player ratings.

Arijanet Muric

Nothing he could’ve done about the first three goals. Almost slipped up against Mikkel Damsgaard, who didn’t punish him, but Bryan Mbeumo did. Ultimately, Muric’s mistake cost Ipswich the game. An overhit cross that went straight past him in stoppage time. Hard not to feel sorry for him, having made seven saves, but that was a sickener. 4

Harry Clarke

A bit of a nightmare on his full Premier League debut, which wasn’t entirely his fault. Became the second player in the history of the division to score an own-goal, give away a penalty and get sent off in a single match. The second yellow card was harsh - it looked like he got the ball - but he shouldn't give the referee a decision to make on a booking. Keane Lewis-Potter gave him a tough time. 4

Dara O'Shea

Showed his pace in moments, made some important blocks. Looked much more confident at centre-back but struggled in duels, although that’s normal against a tall side. 5

Cameron Burgess

A bit nervy at times in the second half but strong in the air and a threat from attacking set pieces. Paid the price against Brentford’s pacy attack at times. 5

Leif Davis

Shots were all over the place but delivered a brilliant cross for Liam Delap, which should’ve armed a point. Looked solid enough up against Mbeumo in one-v-one moments. 6

Jens Cajuste

Looked good. Used his size well, passed the ball around nicely and looked like he’d settled into the league. Considering that he’d only just come back from injury, it was a strong showing. 6

Kalvin Phillips

Sloppy at times. Missed a crucial tackle that led to the first goal and looked a little leggy running back, but he recovered well and put in an improved performance compared to recent weeks. 6

Chiedozie Ogbene

Fast and direct in his time on the pitch, stretching Brentford’s back line. Stretchered off with a nasty injury that came fairly innocuously. A real shame. 6

Conor Chaplin

Started well, with an excellent assist for George Hirst in the first half, but felt like he faded out of the game. Nice to see him captain the side in the Premier League. 6

Sammie Szmodics

A great finish for his goal, with clever movement in the build-up, but understandably struggled once his side went down to 10 men, like Chaplin. Really should've made it 3-0 soon after Town's second. That was arguably the moment that changed the first half. 6

George Hirst

A really strong showing on his first Premier League start. A clever assist for Szmodics and a fantastic finish to double the lead. A good decision to start him here, where he was a nuisance running in behind. 8 (Man of the Match)

Sub: Wes Burns (35')

Ran hard, got stuck in and had a chance to score the third goal. Limited well by Brentford beyond that. 6

Sub: Luke Woolfenden (73')

Brentford weren’t really pushing for a fourth goal when he came on. Slotted in well. 6

Sub: Jack Clarke (73')

Drew a couple of fouls but didn’t have a huge impact. 6

Sub: Liam Delap (73')

Scored with a really nice finish. Hit the post with another shot. A fantastic cameo off the bench, where he did everything to try and drag Ipswich to a point. 7

Sub: Conor Townsend (90')
