Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has praised Ipswich Town loanee George Edmundson for his impressive performances in the Championship so far this season.

The centre-back joined Boro on transfer deadline day, signing on a season-long loan after making his Premier League debut for the Blues away at Manchester City a couple of weeks earlier.

Edmundson had a bit-part role in Town's Championship promotion-winning campaign, but was always a popular figure in the eyes of the fanbase, stepping in whenever required to help the team over the line.

At Middlesbrough, he's played the full 90 minutes in all five games since arriving at the club at the end of August. He helped them keep clean sheets against Stoke City and West Brom before scoring in a 2-1 defeat at Watford.

Carrick - a close friend of Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna - has been delighted by what he's seen from the 27-year-old so far, highlighting they key attributes he brings to their team.

"George has done very well and shown a level of experience and maturity in the way that he’s played," he said via Teesside Live

"He’s played right side [of the centre], played left, he’s had different partners, and he’s not been flustered.

"Nothing has fazed him. Credit to him for that. Being part of the Ipswich team last season and knowing what it takes to be successful in this league, and the confidence has really shone through."
