Ipswich Town forward Sammie Szmodics says he would love nothing more than to win at West Ham tomorrow - the team he supports.

The 28-year-old joined the Blues in a £9m deal from Blackburn in the summer to complete his climb up the football pyramid.

He duly scored on his full Premier League debut, opening the scoring in a 4-1 defeat at Manchester City, meaning he has now netted in the top five divisions of English football.

Ahead of a trip to the London Stadium, the Colchester-born front man said: “There have been pinch myself moments in the last few weeks, but I also have to think that I’m good enough to be here. These Premier League players are my opposition now.

“I’m a big West Ham fan, but there’s nothing more I’d want than to go to West Ham and win because you want to mix with the best. Going to West Ham and winning would be amazing for me as a fan.

“You’ve got to find that balance of realising how much hard work you’ve put in to be where you are and really appreciating that these are Premier League teams, but also recognising that I play for a Premier League team now.

“It’s about relishing these moments, taking it in and showing people what you can do.”

After a run of four Premier League starts, Szmodics was replaced in the team by Jack Clarke for last weekend's 2-2 home draw with Aston Villa.

Other members of the Town squad with West Ham links include Ben Johnson and Kalvin Phillips.

Right-back Johnson, who is being kept out of the team by Axel Tuanzebe at present, ended a 17 year association with the Hammers this summer when joining Town on a Bosman free transfer.

Midfielder Phillips will be returning to the London Stadium with a point to prove after a disastrous loan spell at the East London club in the second half of last season.

Blues boss Kieran McKenna has revealed that a couple of players will undergo late fitness tests ahead of the game.
