Ipswich Town midfielder Massimo Luongo has come out of international retirement to represent Australia once again.

The midfielder first made his debut for the Socceroos in 2014, scoring six goals in 45 appearances before calling it quits last year to focus on his football at club level.

However, since promotion to the Premier League has been secured, minutes have been hard to come by for the 32-year-old, who started against Liverpool and Manchester City before making brief cameo appearances late on against Brighton and Aston Villa.

Now working under a new manager in former Crystal Palace centre-back Tony Popovic, Luongo has returned to the squad, with Australia hoping to make a quick improvement after a poor start to the third round of AFC World Cup qualifying.

The Socceroos will host China in Adelaide on Thursday, October 10th (10:10am BST) before travelling to Saitama to take on Japan on Tuesday, October 15th. They currently sit fifth in Group C with one point from their opening two games.

Luongo's Town team-mate Cameron Burgess has also been called up to the squad. The centre-back, who has 10 international caps to his name, is yet to feature for Kieran McKenna's side in the Premier League.
