Ipswich Town extended their unbeaten run to four matches with a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. Alex Jones provides his player ratings.
Arijanet Muric
Didn’t have a great deal to do as Aston Villa only managed three shots on target. Nothing he could’ve done about the first goal, and although he perhaps could’ve caught the cross for the second, it was from point-blank range, so not easy at all. Distribution was hit and miss but looks much more comfortable overall. 7
Axel Tuanzebe
Had very little time on the ball, with the least touches of any player to play the full 90 minutes. Came close to scoring with an early header and made a clever tactical foul to stop Aston Villa from scoring in the second half. 7
Dara O'Shea
Excellent in the air, winning the most duels in the match. Ollie Watkins’ positioning caught him out for the second goal where he couldn't get in front of him, but he did a pretty good job against the England international overall. 7
Jacob Greaves
His poor clearance led to Aston Villa’s equaliser but he recovered well. Strong into challenges, with a vital late tackle to deny the Villans after the break. 7
Leif Davis
Outstanding - his best performance in the Premier League without getting an assist or a clean sheet. Villa gave him plenty of space and he caused them a lot of problems. Created seven chances - the most in the match - without taking every set piece like he often does. Mostly strong when one v one against Leon Bailey, although he was dragged out of position for the visitors’ second. 8
Sam Morsy
Some brilliant bits, some frustrating bits. Picked out his fourth booking of the season and committed six fouls during his time on the pitch. He was perhaps lucky to avoid a red. On the flip side, his passing was really impressive and he tried his best swing the momentum Ipswich’s way. 7
Kalvin Phillips
Drew four fouls and came close to scoring a fantastic goal from distance. His passing getting much, much sharper and his partnership with Sam Morsy is really starting to grow. 7
Chiedozie Ogbene
For all his core characteristics that make him a top player, it was his physicality that stood out today. Did so well to pick up cross-field passes, bring it down and hold off a defender. Combined well with Omari Hutchinson. 7
Omari Hutchinson
So exciting to watch. A real handful, which Villa couldn’t handle at times. Didn’t have a load of chances to work with, but his best moments came from deep. Bagged his first Premier League assist when he played Liam Delap through for the equaliser - a lovely pass. 8
Jack Clarke
Had some nice moments off the bench prior to this, but he really showed what he was capable of today. Set up Delap for Town’s first, which was a sign of things to come. Countless dribbles and little twists into space. Gave Ezri Konsa a tough time. A really, really exciting performance on his first start in the Premier League. 8
Liam Delap
A pretty remarkable performance. Up against two strong defenders, he had moments where he bullied them. That being said, his work on the ball was what set him apart. His close-range finish put Town ahead and his second allowed him to showcase some phenomenal footwork, sending Diego Carlos stumbling away before firing into the net. So many nice touches to work the ball into space too. Now up to three goals for the season. 9
Sub: Jack Taylor (69')
Unlocked Villa’s back line with a sublime pass that should’ve ended with a goal. Gave Town extra attacking drive late on. 7
Sub: Wes Burns (69')
Should’ve scored to win the game. Denied by a great tackle. 6
