Ipswich Town Under-21s opened their Premier League Cup group campaign with a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City at Needham Market’s Bloomfields this evening.
Town have been placed in Group F with the Bluebirds, Everton and Watford. Tonight’s match was their opening fixture in the competition.
The visitors went two in front within the opening 30 minutes via Cody Twose and Trey George, before Tommy Taylor pulled a goal back for the Blues from the spot in the 41st minute.
John McGreal's side pushed for an equaliser after the break, which they were able to find when Steven Turner scored in the 81st minute to earn a point.
Town fielded new signing Tudor Mendel-Idowu, who joined the club from Belgian club Anderlecht earlier this month. He came through the ranks at Chelsea, having joined them aged eight before making his move to Belgium in 2023.
The young Blues switch their focus back to league action next week when they travel to South Yorkshire to face Barnsley at Oakwell.
Town: Gray, Babb, Ayoola, Mazionis (c), Lewis, Onuchukwu, Turner, Mendel-Idowu, T Taylor, Roberts, Boatswain
