Former Ipswich Town winger Kyle Edwards has re-signed for Oxford United on a short-term contract.

The 26-year-old spent last season with the U's, firstly on loan from Blues, and then on a deal until the end of the 2023/24 campaign after his Town contract was terminated by mutual consent in January.

Edwards was released following their promotion to the Championship after a hamstring injury ended his season prematurely.

He continued his rehab with Des Buckingham's side and has done enough in pre-season to prove his fitness, signing a deal until January.

Speaking after re-signing, Edwards said: “This has been a tough time for me in my career to battle through injury, but I am so thankful for everything the club and the people around me have done to help me return to fitness.

“It was my ambition all summer to fight my way back and to show that I could be part of the team again, so when the club came to me with this contract it was a no-brainer."

He added: “I am so determined to get back on the pitch and do what I love. I want to try to deliver for the team and repay the faith they have shown in me.

“The team have started the season so well and I’m excited to be part of this special time for everyone involved.”

He will link-up with former Town players Greg Leigh and Idris El Mizouni at the Kassam Stadium. Oxford are currently ninth in the Championship with two wins from their opening four games.

Overall, Edwards featured 63 times for Town, scoring three goals after joining from West Brom in 2021.
