Premier League legend and Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has backed Ipswich Town as having the best chance of staying up out of the newly-promoted teams.

The Blues have emerged from a baptism of fire against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City with credit, and got their first point of the season in a pulsating clash with Fulham on Saturday.

Fellow promoted sides Leicester City and Southampton have also found points hard to come by. The Foxes, like Town, have one from three games, while the Saints are one of two sides - the other being Everton - to have lost all three so far.

Leicester sit 15th, with Town 17th and Southampton in the bottom three in 19th. Everton are rock bottom of the early standings, with a goal difference of minus 8.

And Shearer told Betfair: "In terms of the bottom of the table, it is what I thought it would be with the three promoted teams; they’re going to struggle.

"On the evidence from the first three games though, Ipswich are the ones that might have the best chance of survival.

"Everton have struggled - I thought they would. It was a catastrophe for them being 2-0 up in the 87th minute (against Bournemouth) and then losing the game 3-2, so they’ll have a tough season.

"I’m reasonably happy with what I’ve predicted and what I’ve seen so far. It’s very early."
