Ipswich Town defender George Edmundson has completed his loan move to Middlesbrough.

Boro had pulled ahead of a number of Championship clubs to seal a deal, but the move stalled this afternoon. However, it was soon resuscitated, allowing him to travel to Teesside for a medical.

As a result, he’ll now spend the 2024/25 campaign at the Riverside Stadium as Michael Carrick’s side push for promotion to the Premier League.

Edmundson came through at Oldham Athletic’s academy, going out on loan numerous times before joining Rangers. He made the move to Ipswich back in 2021, becoming a vital part of the team in League One until a significant injury halted his momentum.

He struggled to get back into the team after promotion to the Championship was confirmed, but still contributed to the side that sealed a return to the Premier League after 22 years away.

The arrival of Jacob Greaves and Dara O’Shea has seen him fall down the pecking order, with a move to the Championship allowing him to play regularly under Carrick, who’s good friends with Kieran McKenna.

Edmundson becomes Ipswich’s third departure of the day following Freddie Ladapo’s release and Marcus Harness’ loan move to Derby County. One more player will need to be moved on if Reiss Nelson is signed from Arsenal.
