Ipswich Town were beaten 4-1 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in their first away game of the Premier League season. Alex Jones provides his player ratings.

Arijanet Muric

Zero to hero. He won't look back fondly at that four-minute period of madness, where he was caught on the ball for Man City's second and caught off his line for their third. He did, however, make an outsanding save to deny Erling Haaland. Mistakes will always happen with a newly-promoted side playing out from the back, but those moments decided the game. 5

Axel Tuanzebe

Played his role well to allow Ben Johnson to push up the pitch. Combined well with others to close down space and put in some good tackles. 6

Luke Woolfenden

Important to acknowledge the step-up he's had to make - he didn't look at all out of place. Came up against one of the strongest attacking sides in world football and largely held his own. 6

Jacob Greaves

Came into a huge battle against Haaland and had some good moments against him, but he might be frustrated by the striker's second goal. Put his body on the line after the break when Town were under pressure. 6

Ben Johnson

Played a slightly bizarre role where he was very advanved but often pushing into midfield. Got the assist for Town's goal and did alright in 1v1 moments, aside from one or two battles where Jeremy Doku got the best of him. 6

Sam Morsy

Kept the midfield shape well for the most part but got dragged about at times. Elite, world-class midfielders can do that. Shielded the back line and sprayed some nice passes around the pitch, aside from one that went straight out when Town had a chance to counter. 6

Massimo Luongo

Didn't get overrun but was pretty quiet for most of the game. Had his hands full trying to cover a lot of ground on a wide pitch but wasn't overawed by the size of the task. 6

Leif Davis

Gave away a silly penalty that allowed Man City to equalise but recovered really well, pushing forward and causing problems. One or two poor deliveries but should've won a spot-kick after being brought down by Savinho. 6

Omari Hutchinson

Surpringly quiet. Nullified well by Man City's defence but didn't make the most of the space he had. A couple of good moments on the ball but didn't provide the moment of quality Town needed from him. 6

Sammie Szmodics

An excellent performance on his first Premier League start, scoring the opener to shock the Etihad Stadium. He got stuck in with some strong tackles and looked really sharp on the ball, beating opponents and finding space. 8 (MOTD)

Liam Delap

Wasn't given much to work with but always made the most of his time on the ball. Held it up well, beat opponents and looked really powerful when pushing up the pitch. Impressive. 7

Sub: Jack Taylor (72')

Had a good chance to test Ederson but missed his kick. Didn't get a lot of time on the ball. 6

Sub: Marcus Harness (72')

Added some aggression but didn't have any real opportunities to turn the game around. 6

Sub: Ali Al-Hamadi (83')

A great moment for him to come on in a game like this but only had two touches of the ball. 6
