New signing Jens Cajuste is feeling ‘really excited’ to get to work at Ipswich Town, having finally been given the chance to play in the Premier League.

The midfielder’s season-long loan spell from Serie A club Napoli was confirmed last night, with the deal understood to include an obligation to buy if the Blues manage to stay up in the Premier League.

Cajuste has been subject to some intense transfer speculation in recent weeks, having been linked with a move to other clubs in the English top flight and abroad, but he’s looking forward to getting to work ahead of making his Premier League debut.

“The opportunity presented itself,” he told Town TV. “I heard from Ipswich a couple of weeks ago, it took some time for the negotiations to follow through, but I’m finally here and I’m really excited.

“I’ve had a few conversations with coach [Kieran] McKenna. It seems like a really interesting project, I’m happy to be a part of it and it looks really promising.”

Asked what the manager said in those conversations, Cajuste replied: “That it’s an ambitious club. It’s their first time back in the Premier League in a while, I’ve heard, but the team did phenomenally well last season.

“It’s a good project in general, so I’ve heard only good things.

“It’s a team that’s progressing step-by-step and making a lot of progress. It’s a really interesting project, for sure.”

A big allure will be playing in the Premier League, something that has clearly helped Town sign some big named this summer.

Cajuste admitted that it was certainly something that appealed to him ahead of his move to Suffolk, allowing him to challenge himself against some of the biggest names in world football.

“It’s something I dreamt about as a kid, like most footballers,” he explained. “That’s the league you want to be in to compete against the best of the best. It’s the best league in the world.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

He’s certainly going to be a new face at the club and in the division, having only recently started playing at the top level of European football. However, Cajuste believes that fans will be impressed by what he can bring to the game when on the pitch.

“I think I’m a hard-worker that contributes in both offence and defence,” he said. “I have a pretty good physique, physicality as well. Hopefully I can get in some good British-style tackles!”

As for the campaign, the Swedish international knows exactly what he wants.

“My goals are pretty straight forward,” he claimed. “I want to play as much as possible and help the team to win as many games as possible as well. We want to fight to stay in the Premier League and keep building on what the team has already achieved.

“That’s the goal.”
