Left-back Townsend has played more than 200 games for the Baggies since arriving from Scunthorpe for a reported £1.5m fee back in 2018.

The 6ft defender started his career at Hull City, and has also turned out for Grimsby, Chesterfield, Carlisle and Dundee United.

Townsend projects to be the back up to nailed-on left back starter Leif Davis, one of Town's best players over the last couple of seasons.

He's Town's sixth signing of the summer so far, with forward Omari Hutchinson (£18m), defender Ben Johnson (free), centre-back Jacob Greaves (£15m), attacker Liam Delap (£15m) and keeper Aro Muric (£8m) already in the door.

Townsend will now fly out to join his new team-mates in Germany - the Blues are there for a week-long training camp ahead of friendly games on Friday and Saturday.
