Onuchukwu mainly featured for their U18s side, scoring three goals in 13 games last season in the U18s Premier League, but he wasn't offered fresh terms by Villa at the end of the season.
He has now joined the Blues after agreeing a two-year professional contract at Portman Road, with reports suggesting the club beat a number of clubs for his signature.
The technical box-to-box player will link up with John McGreal and David Wright’s U21s squad for the coming season.
This is the second signing of the summer for the academy, with young defender Leon Elliott joining the Blues after leaving Crystal Palace.
