Former Ipswich Town midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has signed for Essex non-league side Maldon & Tiptree as their player-coach.

The 35-year-old joins the Jammers, following the expiry of his contract at National League South side Chelmsford City.

Wordsworth moved to the Clarets last summer, where he made 25 appearances and scored two goals as he helped them finish second in the sixth tier, but they were beaten 3-2 by Braintree Town after extra-time in the play-off semi-finals.

He now links up with Colchester United's alliance club Maldon, where he will continue playing and work alongside their new boss, Dave Huzzey.

They play in the Isthmian League North Division, the seventh tier of English football and finished 11th in the 2023/24 season.

In total, he played 20 times and scored two goals during his spell at Portman Road, having signed from Colchester United for £100,000 in January 2013.

Wordsworth went on to have spells at Southend United, AFC Wimbledon, Barnet, Cheshunt, Irish club Waterford and Enfield Town.
