Ipswich Town 'are keen to reunite' with former loan star Tom Lawrence, according to the Daily Mail.

The 30-year-old winger, who scored 11 goals for the Blues when borrowed from Leicester City in 2016/17, is now heading into the final year of his contract at Scottish club Rangers.

Today's report states that Turkish club Besiktas - managed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the man who brought Lawrence to Ibrox from Derby in 2022 - have made Lawrence a target, but that he is 'also attracting interest from his former club Ipswich Town'.

Lawrence has had an injury-plagued two seasons at Rangers, scoring just six goals in 23 starts and 18 sub appearances.

Stu's verdict

As it stands, Town's striker support unit is made up of just four players - Wes Burns, Conor Chaplin, Nathan Broadhead and Marcus Harness - so reinforcements are required.

There's clearly fire in Lawrence's belly. Speaking in September, he said: "These are my peak years and my body feels good, it was just a freak injury that put me out for a year. My body is all good and I just want to get back to playing football. I know what I can do. Every time you step onto the pitch you have a point to prove and I don’t think that ever stops."

Personally though, I don't think he is the answer - even as a modest fee, experienced squad player - as the Blues step up to the big time. Yes, he's capable of individual moments of magic, but those are countered by poor on-field discipline and a penchant for diving.

My understanding is this is another transfer report in which Ipswich's name is being used to try and generate interest/further negotiations.
