Ipswich Town are targeting Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien, according to The Sun.

This morning's report states that the Blues 'could get the deal done in a hurry', adding that 'a quick sale helps Forest to sort out their Financial Fair Play issues'.

O'Brien was born in Colchester, but came through the youth ranks at Huddersfield. He was a Championship regular for the Terriers between 2019 and 2022 before switching to newly-promoted Premier League club Forest, along with team-mate Harry Toffolo, in a combined deal said to be worth £10m.

A reminder of how the EADT and Ipswich Star will approach covering the transfer window this summer.

The 25-year-old made six starts and seven sub appearances in the top flight during his debut campaign at the City Ground, scoring against Fulham.

He spent the first half of last season on loan at MLS side DC United and the second half of it on loan at Championship club Middlesbrough, starting regularly for both.

The Sun reports that Middlesbrough want him back, while Sheffield United are also keen.

The report also states that Coventry wanting more than £10m for midfielder Ben Sheaf is higher than Ipswich's valuation.

It also reiterates previous reports that Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, who spent last season on loan at Swansea, is an Ipswich target.

Stu's verdict

With Lewis Travis and Dominic Ball gone, Town need to add another midfielder to compete with Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo and Jack Taylor.

O'Brien captained Huddersfield, has good experience for his age and was hailed a 'special' talent by Carlos Corberan. If Carrick likes him, then there's a chance that McKenna will too given their shared philosophies.

He's mainly been a ball carrying deep-lying midfielder in his career, but has played more advanced at times too. That's the versatility box ticked.

With Forest not in the best bargaining position, this deal does make a lot of sense.
