Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna's new, improved long-term contract at the club is likely to be announced today.

The Blues boss has become hot property after leading the club to back-to-back automatic promotions into the Premier League.

There has been intense speculation about his future over the last fortnight, with top-flight trio Brighton, Chelsea and Manchester United all reportedly having shown strong interest.

The Athletic broke the news that the Northern Irishman was set to extend his deal at Portman Road on Monday.

The EADT and Ipswich Star understands the final details of that contract are close to being signed off.

McKenna, who had to retire at the age of 22 due to a chronic hip injury, has climbed the coaching ladder over several years.

He left his role as Manchester United assistant manager in December 2021 to replace Paul Cook in the Portman Road dugout when the club was mid-table in League One.

The 38-year-old has improved players, implemented an entertaining brand of football and brought success without doing anything wild in the transfer market.

His record in charge reads a highly impressive: P131 W75 D36 L20.

McKenna penned his current deal - which was due to run until 2027 - less than 12 months ago after leading the team to League One promotion.
