Former Ipswich Town forward Brett Pitman has helped non-league side Shaftesbury win promotion from the ninth tier.

The 35-year-old was officially promoted on Saturday after he scored the winner for the Dorset side as they beat AFC Stoneham 1-0 in the Wessex League Premier Division Play-off final.

He joined the Rockies from fellow ninth-tier side AFC Portchester last summer, having bagged an impressive 50 goals in all competitions in the 2022/23 season.

Pitman has continued to notch as he set a new Wessex League Premier scoring record, with 55 goals in 38 league games which beat the mark that had been set by Winchester’s Andy Forbes in a 42-game campaign in 2003/04.

In total, Pitman scored a staggering 61 goals in all competitions in his first season at Shaftesbury.

Alongside playing he is a current youth coach at his former side AFC Bournemouth.

Pitman scored 15 goals in 70 games for the Blues during his two season at Portman Road and was the club's top scorer with 11 in the 2015/16 campaign
