Ipswich Town skipper Sam Morsy says the Blues turned in a good showing against Watford - but just couldn't find their cutting edge.

Town missed the chance to go back on top of the Championship table with just four games left, as the Hornets escaped Portman Road with a 0-0 draw.

The Blues went close several times in the first half, with Nathan Broadhead hitting the base of the post and Kieffer Moore hammering a towering header straight at the Watford stopper.

The second half was a tougher watch, with the Blues struggling to create openings, despite the flashy feet of star man Omari Hutchinson.

Morsy told TownTV: “It was a good performance, especially first half. We had some gilt-edged chances – Broady was really unlucky, Kieff was as well, both lads did everything right.

“Then we huffed and puffed in the second half, but couldn’t quite get the breakthrough.

“But it’s a clean sheet, it’s a good performance and lots of positive momentum for Saturday now.”

Of Watford, who remain unbeaten in five games under interim boss Tom Cleverley, he added: “They’ve picked up under a new manager.

“We put in a good performance and did a lot of the things we wanted to do. They didn’t really have a goal threat, so a lot of good things (for us) but we just couldn’t quite get the breakthrough.

“We’ll refresh, we’ll come back strong and hopefully get the win on Saturday.”

He continued: “Second half they were difficult to break down and we just couldn’t quite get those clear-cut chances – we had a few half chances, but it just wasn’t to be today.

"It’s a clean sheet, we’re not conceding many which is really positive. We’ve just got to find the goals again.”

Town now host Middlesbrough on Saturday in what is another huge game in the race for the top two automatic promotion spots to the Premier League.

And Morsy said Town's fans can continue to play their part in the promotion push.

"They were amazing," he enthused. "It’s not going to be easy – if anyone told you it was going to be easy, they were lying to you.

“But the fans were amazing. I remember looking at the clock about 60-odd minutes and the fans were really upping it, really pushing us towards the goal.

“We had sustained pressure but just couldn’t quite get the breakthrough.”
