Premier League clubs Newcastle United and West Ham are both 'keeping tabs' on Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis, according to talkSPORT.

The 24-year-old has proved a revelation for the Blues since making a £1.2m switch from Leeds United in the summer of 2021.

Having provided a league-topping 14 assists in a League One promotion season, the full-back has set-up 12 goals this campaign and is just three short of breaking the Championship record set by a defender - Kieran Trippier (Burnley, 13/14) and Barry Douglas (Wolves, 17/18).

Blues boss Kieran McKenna, whose side are level on points with second-place Leeds in the Championship table, said recently that he had 'no doubts' that Davis was a Premier League player in waiting.

West Ham are looking for a successor to long-serving left-back Aaron Cresswell, who has made close to 300 appearances for the club since leaving Ipswich in 2011.

Davis was born in Newcastle and grew up supporting the Magpies. Last summer he told The Sun: “I’ve always been a huge fan and had a season ticket at St James’ Park for years.

“When I first went to watch them there was Ryan Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini. Then there was Yohan Cabaye and Gabriel Obertan.

“My favourite games were the European nights when I went up there with my dad and brother. Hopefully a chance might present itself to get a few Champions League games this season.”

Davis' contract at Portman Road runs until 2025, though Ipswich have the option to extend that by a further 12 months.
