Have you ever looked back at Ipswich Town teams of years gone by and wondered what the players are up to now? Some of them are still playing!

Ross Halls takes a look at eight former Blues you may not have known are still in action.

DAVID NORRIS

Town career: 2008-2011

Appearances: 118 - Goals: 17

The former Town captain is still playing at the age of 43. He's currently at Lancaster City, who play in the eighth tier, having joined the Dolly Blues back in 2018. 

Norris is a mainstay for Chris Willcock's side, who are looking to push for the play-off spots this season.

ANTHONY WORDSWORTH

Town career: 2013-2015

Appearances: 20 - Goals: 2

The midfielder is currently at National League South side Chelmsford City, having joined them last May after spells with Cheshunt, Enfield Town and Irish club Waterford.

Wordsworth is now 35, playing alongside current Town youngsters Henry Gray and Fin Barbrook at the Clarets, who are pushing for promotion to the fifth tier.

LEE MARTIN 

Town career: 2009-2013

Appearances: 105 - Goals: 6

The now 37-year-old midfielder plies his trade at Kent side Ramsgate, who play in the eight tier, having joined them from Dover Athletic last summer. 

Martin helped the Rams reach the second round of the FA Cup this season, which was the furthest the club has gone in their history. If they had beaten AFC Wimbledon, they would have been drawn against Ipswich in the third round!

BRETT PITMAN

Town career: 2015-2017

Appearances: 70 - Goals: 15

The forward is still bagging goals for fun at Shaftesbury, who play in the ninth tier of English football, having signed from fellow league side AFC Portchester last summer. 

Pitman is now 36 and has scored 45 goals in 27 games this season so far.

RICHARD STEARMAN

Town career: 2013 (on loan from Derby County)

Appearances: 15

The defender dropped into non-league football for the first time last summer, joining fifth-tier side Solihull Moors after he was released by Derby County at the end of the 2022/22 season. 

Stearman is a regular for the Moors and currently plays alongside Ipswich keeper Nick Hayes, who is on loan at the National League side who are pushing for the play-offs. 

ANDY DRURY

Town career: 2011-2013

Appearances: 65 - Goals: 2

The midfielder is currently the player-manager of seventh-tier side Folkestone Invicta, having originally joined the club as a player-coach last summer. 

Drury was appointed first-team manager in November last year but is still playing at the age of 40.

CONOR SAMMON

Town career: 2014-2015 (on loan from Derby County)

Appearances: 20 - Goals: 1

The Irishman is now 37, playing at Scottish League One side Alloa Athletic. He has been since signing from Falkirk in 2021. 

Sammon has scored seven goals so far this season, with the Wasps sitting third in the table and looking to push for the play-offs. 

STEPHEN GLEESON

Town career: 2018

Appearances: 10

The Irishman left Town in 2018 to move to Scottish side Aberdeen. He subsequently returned to England to have spells at non-league sides Solihull Moors and Hemel Hempstead Town.

The 35-year-old is a regular at Hitchin Town, who play in the seventh tier of English football.
