Ipswich Town 4-3 Rotherham United: Wes Burns reaction

Burns was the undoubted man of the match in Town's wild 4-3 win over Rotherham United last night, bagging two goals and an assist inside half an hour, but it was Hutchinson who grabbed the winner deep into added time.

The 20-year-old Chelsea loanee may only have started 14 of his 37 appearances this season but he's netted five goals, often at key times.

Burns enthused: “I’m buzzing for him. He’s come in and he’s been a breath of fresh air from day one.

“He brings such good quality, different aspects to his game that we haven’t had before.

“So we’re buzzing for him, it’s such a big moment for a young lad to score late on in what could be a very big three points for us.”

Burns also had a huge role to play in that win of course, and told TownTV that he was delighted to chip in with an assist for Kieffer Moore's strike, on top of his two goals.

“It’s about time that I started adding a few more assists to my game this season, I think they’ve been missing a  little bit," he insisted.

“So to get that assist is massive for me. We highlighted before the game that their backline would be disjointed if we got in behind them and that flash ball for Kieff was on – I’m just glad we executed it.”

Of his all-important first goal, which got Town level after they'd fallen behind early on, Burns explained: "To be fair, we work on that one quite a lot. When Trav’s (Lewis Travis) in the team he plays a bit deeper and skip (Sam Morsy) goes higher into that left pocket.

“When we’ve practiced that kind of stuff in training we’ve seen that skip’s got the quality to find those crosses in there, so it’s just reading when he was going to do it and I got on the end of it and the main thing was just keeping it on target."

Of the match, he continued: “We knew they were going to come and play a very disruptive game, long balls into the box, and we knew that the game was going to be a tough one, it wasn’t going to be free-flowing with high intensity.

“Obviously we go behind early with a silly goal really, but it shows great character from the lads that we can come through these tough tests and get three points tonight.

“It’s never great to go behind so early in a game, but I think we’ve shown plenty of times this season that when we go behind nothing really changes for us.

“We stick to our principles and that’s what we’ve done tonight. I know it wasn’t pretty at times, but that’s the type of game that they wanted.

“We spoke in there that we can’t allow the game to go into the type of flow that they want. We need to stick to how we play, keep the intensity high and stick to our football style.

“Ultimately though, three points is ours – and that’s the main thing.”
