Ipswich Town have signed striker Kieffer Moore on loan from AFC Bournemouth until the end of the season.

The Blues have beaten fierce competition from several Championship rivals to land the 31-year-old - Sunderland and Cardiff having both been keen - with reports suggesting that the club will pick up 75% of his Premier League wage.

The Welsh international, who will be keen to impress ahead of this summer's European Championships, scored 43 goals at Championship level for Barnsley, Wigan, Cardiff and Bournemouth before netting four times in the top-tier last season.

The 6ft 5in front man provides some much-needed experience to a Town strike force that was depleted by a significant injury to main man George Hirst, the loan recall of Dane Scarlett and loan departure of Freddie Ladapo

He becomes the club's fourth signing of the January transfer window following the additions of tricky winger Jeremy Sarmiento (Brighton, loan), experienced midfielder Lewis Travis (Blackburn, loan) and energetic young striker Ali Al-Hamidi (AFC Wimbledon, £1m+).

Moore returns to Portman Road following an underwhelming 12 months at the club back in 2017. Signed from then non-league club Forest Green Rovers for £10k by Mick McCarthy in the January transfer window he made just 11 sub appearances for the Blues before being loaned out to Rotherham and subsequently sold to Barnsley for £750k.

"It’s great to finally get it over the line because it’s been a long time coming during the window,” said Moore, speaking to TownTV.

“I remember my first spell here and I’ve gone away and worked very hard on myself during that time, so I’m delighted to be back and can’t wait to get going.

“I was really excited when I spoke to everyone here and now I just want to meet the group, get out on the pitch and contribute.”

Town chief executive Mark Ashton said: "We’re delighted to have completed a move for a player who was always our number one target.

“It’s been a real team effort from a wide range of people at the football club, including Luke Werhun, Gary Probert and the recruitment team, while Kieran McKenna and his coaching staff have all played their parts.

“We’re delighted to have got it across the line during a challenging window, with not a lot of movement across the leagues, and bring a current Premier League striker to the club.”

Meanwhile, homegrown Town defender Elkan Baggott, 21, has joined midtable League One club Bristol Rovers on loan until the end of the season.
