Ipswich Town striker target Jessic Ngankam has signed for another club in Germany on transfer deadline day.

We understand that Town made an ambitious loan enquiry about Eintracht Frankfurt's young German striker Ngankam as part of their search for a new frontman at Portman Road.

That always appeared to be a long shot and the 23-year-old German youth international has signed instead for FSV Mainz 05 on loan for the rest of the season. His new side are second bottom of the Bundesliga. 

Ngankam said: "I'm looking forward to the new challenge, I think I'll fit well into the team and the playing system here.

"I already know some of the guys like Jonny Burkardt, Marco Richter and Tom Krauss and now I want to work with my new ones Teammates will give everything so that we can stay in the league.” 

Mainz sports director Christian Heidel added: "Jessic is a young, physically robust player who has a lot of speed and joy in the game.

"He made a name for himself with strong performances at Hertha BSC, but now his development at Eintracht Frankfurt has stalled a bit.

"Here in Mainz he has the chance to make a new attempt and earn playing time and goals."
