Ipswich Town keeper Vaclav Hladky says boss Kieran McKenna and his coaching team have improved every player at the club - and there's more to come.

The Czech stopper has been in sensational form since taking the gloves from the injured Christian Walton on the eve of the season, making plenty of vital saves and adding to Town's playing out from the back philosophy.

Asked if he'd surprised himself with his play, the 33-year-old praised McKenna and his staff.

“If you look at every lad in the squad over the past 18 months, you can 100% say that everyone has improved and I’m included," he explained.

“Obviously we’re working with Rene (Gilmartin, goalkeeping coach) as well on a daily basis with loads of detail and analysis, and we try to push the level on as best we can.

“I’m feeling really well at the moment and, listen, it’s not the best level I can hit I don’t think – there’s a lot more ahead of us and we just don’t want to stop at the moment.”

Hladky's stellar play is not the only notable thing about Town's campaign, with the newly-promoted side second in the Championship table and slugging it out with relegated Premier League big boys Leicester City, Southampton and Leeds United for automatic promotion.

But Town's number one said their success hasn't happened by accident.

“No, I wouldn’t say surprised," he insisted, when asked about the club's performances.

"Obviously we didn’t speak about the position we wanted to be in at the beginning of the season, we wanted to just work hard and win every game – that’s 100% for sure.

“We just come in every day and talk about how we can improve every single detail.

"Where we were going to be halfway through the season is not something we focus on, we just focus on marginal gains and I think we’ve been doing very well.

“Listen, we are second at the moment and it’s great – but I’m not going to say we are surprised because it’s based on our great hard work everyday.”
