Ipswich Town returned to winning ways in the Championship by beating Sunderland 2-1 at Portman Road. Alex Jones provides his player ratings.

Vaclav Hladky

Only had a couple of saves to make. A few nervy moments while playing out from the back and gave Sunderland a golden chance to score just after the hour-mark. 6

Harry Clarke

Jack Clarke had two real moments during that game. He scored from one. Harry Clarke couldn't do a great deal about either. Defended incredibly well, won more duels (7) than anyone on the pitch and bombed forward whenever he had the chance. A complete performance. 8 (Man of the Match)

Luke Woolfenden

One poor moment but Sunderland couldn't capitalise. Other than that, he did really well on the ball and defended bravely. His positioning was really impressive and he hit the post in the second half. 7

George Edmundson

Solid. Doesn't look at all out of place in this team. Making Cameron Burgess' absence look like nothing. He knew he had to make a point that he was capable of being a part of this team - he's certainly done that. 8

Leif Davis

Pretty quiet at the start but quickly grew into the game. Created numerous chances and pushed forward well. Delivered two brilliant free-kicks in the second half - one went in and the other easily could've. 8

East Anglian Daily Times: Lewis Travis impressed on his Town debutLewis Travis impressed on his Town debut (Image: Ross Halls)

Lewis Travis

A really impressive debut. Not only did he get stuck in, as we expected, but he adapted to Ipswich's style very quickly. Didn't look like a new signing at all, and it's fair to say that nobody noticed Sam Morsy's absence tonight. 7

Jack Taylor

Linked play quite nicely and looked good on the ball, but some of his passes were way off. Felt like he was bypassed a little easily at times and picked up a booking for a strong foul on the edge of the box. 6

Wes Burns

Dangerous but not overly sharp when he got into the final third. Got into the right areas and made life hard for Aji Alese, but just needed to be a bit more ruthless in the box. Struggled to make the right decisions at times, but not a bad performance by any stretch. 7

East Anglian Daily Times: Conor Chaplin was quiet until his goal in the second halfConor Chaplin was quiet until his goal in the second half (Image: Stephen Waller)

Conor Chaplin

Quiet in the first half and took a while to grow into things in the second half. That's when he started to link up nicely and headed home from a free-kick towards the end of the match. Had another chance soon after but couldn't hit the target. Did create four chances across the 90 minutes. 8

Nathan Broadhead

Not his game. Held onto the ball for a bit too long at times and lacked that cutting edge to do real damage. A few nice moments but lost a lot of his threat when he moved up top. 6

Kayden Jackson

Needed a big game and delivered with a goal. A fantastic run and a fine finish to equalise for Town shortly after falling behind. He had enough chances for a hat-trick, but wasn't able to take them. He's not a ruthless striker, we all know that, but he really worked his socks off. 7

Surprisingly physical, which is good, because that's the game was going towards the end. Linked up really well with Omari Hutchinson and, like against Wimbledon, he didn't look at all out of place in his new team. 6

Lively, as always. Had a couple of good chances to score and looked frustrated that he wasn't able to convert. 6

Sub: Dom Ball (68')

Carried on where Lewis Travis left off. Didn't have a great deal to do, with only seven touches in total, but protected the back line well. 6
