Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna says it's going to be difficult to land striker reinforcements in the early stages of the January transfer window.
Skilful winger Jeremy Sarmiento became the Blues' first addition of 2024 when joining on loan from Premier League club Brighton yesterday.
It's up front where Ipswich are most in need of fresh faces though following a long-term hamstring injury suffered by George Hirst and the Tottenham's recall of Dane Scarlett.
Asked if any more signings were close, McKenna replied: "No, nothing very imminent. We're of course working really hard on it.
"The reality is, in January, lots of teams want strikers. Teams who have good strikers don't always want to let them go though, especially not at the very start of the window because they want to make sure that they've got enough cover.
"We have targets in each position and we have targets in the forward position, but I wouldn't imagine that there will be anything done before the weekend."
Town, second in the Championship table, go to League Two club AFC Wimbledon on Saturday for an FA Cup third round tie before returning league action with games against Sunderland (home, Jan 13) and Leicester (away, Jan 22).
