Ipswich Town have confirmed the loan signing of Jeremy Sarmiento from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

The winger will spend the rest of the season at Portman Road, having been recalled from his spell at Championship rivals West Brom at the start of the month.

Sarmiento, 21, becomes the Blues' first signing of the January transfer window, arriving in Suffolk with Premier League and international experience. He's made 14 appearances for the Seagulls in the top flight while also boasting 13 caps for Ecuador.

He struggled for regular game time at the Hawthorns, starting just seven of his 20 games in total. Most of his minutes came off the bench, although he found the back of the net against Middlesbrough and Cardiff City.

Town boss Kieran McKenna has stressed the need to bolster his forward options this month, with first-choice striker George Hirst ruled out until the latter end of the season with a significant hamstring injury.

Sarmiento won't be used to cover the no.9 role, but he can play anywhere behind the lone striker, primarily on the left, providing extra squad depth and more competition for the likes of Nathan Broadhead, Conor Chaplin and Wes Burns.

He's been registered in time to play in Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie against AFC Wimbledon, where he could make his debut for the club. He'll wear the #21 shirt during his time at Ipswich.
