Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna provided injury updates on George Hirst and Leif Davis following this afternoon's 0-0 draw at Stoke City.

On striker Hirst, who limped off in the Boxing Day home draw with Leicester City, the Blues boss said: "George is seeing a surgeon this week for a repair to a rupture to his hamstring. It will be the very, very back end of the season before he will be eligible.

"We wanted to add a goalscorer (in the January transfer window) before George's injury. Now he's ruled out for a large majority of the season that increases that importance. It's about getting the right player or players in that can help us for the rest of the season and maybe beyond."

On left-back Davis, who has missed the last two games, McKenna said: "He's got a calf strain. He wasn't particularly close for today. It's not a huge tear, but whether it's one week, two weeks, three weeks, we can't say at this time."

Centre-back Cameron Burgess was a surprise absentee today. He's already gone away with Australia ahead of the Asian Cup starting on January 12.

"That's something the federations can do," said McKenna. "I'm not sure I agree with it, but they can declare a player ineligible from two weeks before a tournament starts. That two weeks started today, so that's what they decided to do."
