Wes Burns has hailed his Ipswich Town teammates as the best that he’s worked with so far in his career.
The winger went viral on social media after scoring an incredible goal against Coventry City on Saturday afternoon, capping off a team move with a ‘trivela’ finish to put his side 2-0 up just before the half-time break.
Town held on to secure a valuable win at Portman Road, maintaining their seven-point lead on third-place Leeds United.
Burns knows that none of this would’ve been possible without every member of the squad being involved, however, highlighting how the Blues have managed to build their team spirit since winning promotion to the Championship.
“It’s definitely the best bunch of lads that I’ve had the pleasure of sharing a dressing room with, for sure,” he told talkSPORT.
“The team spirit that we’ve built over the last two or three seasons is one that I’ll cherish for a long time.
“I think it says a lot for a dressing room when new lads come into it and there’s no egos and no massive personalities that take over. Everyone buys in straight away to what we want to achieve.
“Everyone fits in brilliantly, and I think that says a lot about the characters that we have in the dressing room.”
Burns was one of the first signings made by Gamechanger 20 Ltd, who completed their takeover of the club in April 2021.
They moved to bring Conor Chaplin to Suffolk a few weeks later, allowing the Wales international to grow his friendship with the former Barnsley man both on and off the pitch.
“I’ve known Chappers for years, even before we played together at Ipswich,” Burns revealed.
“I’ve shared the pitch against him loads of times and always had a small friendship. Obviously that’s blossomed since we both play for Ipswich now.
“We get on so well off the field that there’s a natural connection. When we work on stuff in training, he always seems to know where I am and I always seem to know where he is.
“It works well for both of us. We can just play blind passes knowing exactly where the other is going to be.
“It makes us look a lot better than we actually are!”
