Ipswich Town fell to a 2-0 defeat to West Brom at the Hawthorns this evening, ending their 12-match unbeaten run. Alex Jones provides his player ratings for the Blues.
Vaclav Hladky
Not to be blamed for either goal, although he was caught a high for West Brom's second. He was quick to get back and stood no chance against Grady Diangana, who fired in off the post. Only made two saves other than that, showing that the hosts were pretty ruthless. 6
Brandon Williams
Showed aggression and desire, which Town lacked in a lot of areas areas. Won more tackles (4) and more duels (6) than anyone on the pitch. Set up a counter in the first half where Ipswich really should've done more. Needless yellow card in the second half took the shine off things a bit. 6 (Man of the Match)
Luke Woolfenden
Too casual. His laid-back style ended up getting pulled apart by West Brom's forward line. Often pressurised on the ball and looked sloppy out of possession. 4
Cameron Burgess
Looked tired, which is understandable since he travelled half the length world in the last couple of weeks. Looked okay on the ball, where he made lots of accurate passes, but the odd one ended up flying miles wide, as did many of the ones he pumped forward. About as bad out of possession as Woolfenden was. 5
Leif Davis
Limited to very little. Didn't get into any of the attacking areas that he wanted. Made the wrong decision in going to ground over taking a shot in the first half, as he was never going to win a penalty. West Brom found it pretty easy to shut out someone who, at their best, is one of the most influential players in the league. 5
Sam Morsy
A somewhat bizarre performance. Could've had an assist in the first half with a good cross into the box, but had nowhere near the same levels of control that he's had in recent cames. Couldn't dictate the momentum, and picked up his eighth booking of the season. 5
Jack Taylor
Frustrations over the opening goal, where he was massively caught out with the corner. Fired badly wide from a short corner routine about 15 minutes later. Did his part defensively when Ipswich were caught on transitions, but this performance isn't going to show that he can start over Massimo Luongo. 5
Wes Burns
Did half the job. He was clearly the outlet, and he got into all the right positions. However, he lacked that cutting edge. Won a couple of corners, but fired well wide from a good angle in the first half. Bit of a frustrating showing from him, but had the odd bright moment, of which there weren't many for Town. 5
Conor Chaplin
Not really involved. A few moments of nice link-up play, but next to no attacking threat. He can have those games sometimes, but Ipswich felt his lack of presence. 4
Nathan Broadhead
Quiet. 18 touches in an hour on the pitch, where he misplaced quite a few passes. Tried to play in George Hirst but couldn't find the ball. Town needed much more from him. 4
George Hirst
Nothing to work with. Ran hard and chased everything, but there wasn't much he could do. Didn't take a single shot. 5
Sub: Massimo Luongo (60')
Didn't add anything that Taylor didn't. By the time he came on, West Brom were pretty happy to just knock the ball about. 5
Sub: Marcus Harness (60')
Nothing went for him today. Town did little in the half-hour he was on the pitch, and he looked pretty frustrated about it. 5
Sub: Freddie Ladapo (75')
Touched the ball four times. Had a shot blocked from a late scramble at a corner. 5
Sub: Kayden Jackson (75')
Came on too late to have an impact. 5
Sub: Dane Scarlett (80')
Had a chance from a header before firing a long-range effort wide of the post. Gave it a go in limited time. 5
