Leon Ayinde scored a late equaliser for Ipswich Town’s under-21's as they drew 1-1 with Millwall at Playford Road earlier today.
It was a cold afternoon at the Blues' training ground, where two of the top sides in the Professional Development League Two South went head to head.
The Lions went in front in the 18th minute as Frankie Baker's cross took a deflection off Edwin Agabaje, who turned the ball into his own net.
Town were mostly on top in an entertaining yet scrappy half that was full of chances, with Ash Boatswain and Ayinde coming close to equalising for the Blues.
Ayinde eventually found his goal with seven minutes remaining, firing a fine effort into the net for his fifth goal of the season.
Town then came close to claiming all three points in stoppage time when substitute Steven Turner hit the post with a stunning strike from 25 yards out.
The young Blues lined up with Alex Stepien-Iwumene, an 18-year-old central midfielder from Southampton, who played 75 minutes overall against a strong Millwall side.
Irish defender Agabaje continued his comeback from an ankle injury that he sustained last season.
He put in an impressive performance despite some frustrating moments, managing 75 minutes on the pitch.
Jacob Mazionis and Daniel O'Connor both looked solid at the back, while Harry Barbrook stepped up as captain in place of his twin brother Fin, who is currently on loan at Chelmsford City.
That being said, New Zealand under-20 international Henry Gray had to make some vital saves to preserve a hard-earned point, which was the right result on the balance of play.
The forward line had a tough afternoon against a stubborn defence, but Ayinde's lively performance saw him bag yet another goal.
Town U21s: Gray, Agbaje (Jambang), Mazionis, O’Connor, H. Barbrook (c), Carr, Stepien-Iwumene (Turner), Foyo, Roberts, Ayinde, Boatswain
