Ipswich Town Women host Plymouth Argyle at the AGL Arena in Felixstowe today. Ross Halls previews the game.
SEASON SO FAR
The Tractor Girls have started their campaign with back-to-back wins, with Megan Wearing netting a dramatic winner as Town Women began their 2023/24 FAWNL Southern Premier Division campaign with a 2-1 victory at Cardiff City.
Last week, they progressed to the next round the FAWNL Cup after fighting back twice to beat league rivals Billericay Town 4-2 at home.
Joe Sheehan's side wanted to start their season strong after losing their opening two games last season and will be looking to make it three straight wins today.
MEET THE OPPOSITION
Today's visitors didn't have a great start to their season as they were thrashed 6-0 at home to Billiercay Town, but bounced back last week as they won the Devon Derby by beating Exeter City 4-1 in the FA WNL Cup.
Argyle will come up against a former face in the Blues squad in goalkeeper Poppy Soper, who made 31 appearances for the Pilgrims.
The two teams last met in March as Town beat the Devon side 3-0 at home thanks to a brace from Anna Grey and a goal from Freya Godfrey.
DEBUT FOR NEW SIGNING
The Tractor Girls have made a new signing ahead of the game today, with Lenna Gunning-Williams joining on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
The 18-year-old signed her first professional contract with the North London side last month and will be playing third tier football for the first time.
She scored on her senior debut for Spurs as they beat Coventry United 5-1 in the League Cup.
SHEEHAN THOUGHTS
The Tractor Girls manager speaking ahead of game: "It's never easy, first and foremost. Plymouth will be very postive from their win last week and I'm sure they will come here to stamp their mark and try to get something from the game.
"We know all teams in this division can take points from everyone, so we will have to make sure we set the tempo of the game and find our rhythm the best we can so it can help us put in a good performance."
Kick-off is at 2pm and tickets can be purchased on the gate, costing £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and £2 for U19s.
