Former Ipswich Town defender Ed Upson has signed for his hometown club of Bury Town.

The 33-year-old scored Ipswich's winner in the 2005 FA Youth Cup Final and went on to play for Yeovil, Millwall, MK Dons, Bristol Rovers, Newport County and Stevenage.

He spent last season at Stowmarket Town, scoring 11 goals and being named in the Isthmian League North Division 'Team of the Season'.

Upon the expiry of his contract, he has decided to move to Ram Meadow and join a team that is being managed by former Ipswich and Colchester midfielder Cole Skuse.

Upson links back up with his former Stowmarket boss Paul Musgrove, who is assisting Skuse, and recent team-mate Josh Curry, who recently made the same summer switch.

"We were alerted to Ed's availability following his decision to leave Stowmarket and we were keen to bring him to the club," said Skuse.

"We are delighted that he has agreed to join us. He has an excellent playing career in professional football behind him and I know from what I have been told that he was a stand out player in this division last season.

"We were not sure if a deal could be possible but everyone has worked hard to make it happen and we are excited to have another quality player with us for what is a fresh start."

Bury finished 11th in the Isthmian League North Division last season, 16 points and four places behind Suffolk rivals Stowmarket.
