Ipswich Town beat Charlton Athletic 6-0 this afternoon. Andy Warren hands out his player ratings.
Christian Walton
What ultimately proved to be a quiet afternoon for the Ipswich Town goalkeeper did include a good save to deny former team-mate Macauley Bonne in the first half. Aside from that, he did all required of him as he got back on the clean sheet train. 7
Harry Clarke
A solid defensive performance from the right-sider but he wasn’t his marauding self in this game, with measured ventures forward before being replaced by Donacien in the second half. He may well have enjoyed the final 25 minutes had he been on the pitch, with Charlton leaving plenty of room for Ipswich to work. He did all needed of him before his exit, though. 7
Luke Woolfenden
A good performance once again from a defender who is looking extremely assured at the moment. Dealt with Charlton well, both physically and positionally, as the Town backline barely gave up a sniff to Bonne & Co, aside from his header. 8
Cameron Burgess
The big defender was as solid as you like during this game, coasting through it at times such was his level of confidence. Used the ball very well with feet and also had a shot from outside the box as he moved forward and things opened up for him. 9
Leif Davis
Was up and down the left flank well, playing the ball inside for Conor Chaplin’s first of the afternoon before finishing the scoring himself with a slammed effort from inside the box. He did survive strong-looking penalty appeals after tangling with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. 8
Sam Morsy
Ipswich are in very good hands with their skipper. He was superb again here, showing just the right amount of bite to keep scrappy opposite number George Dobson at bay while also once again showcasing his ability on the ball. As the game went on his drive through the middle of the pitch came more and more to the fore, with the captain laying in Freddie Ladapo's first goal. Superb. 9
Massimo Luongo
Town look so strong in the centre of the pitch and Luongo is such a big part of that. He’s strong, showed drive again today and also played a clever ball into danger for goal three. Another very good display. 8
Wes Burns
Another good performance from the Welshman as he kept up his recent form. He put in a string of dangerous balls and was good in possession as Town moved the ball around. Took treatment for a knock to his ankle but fortunately was able to carry on. 8
Conor Chaplin
This game will probably be one Chaplin looks back on for the rest of his career. It will have meant the world to him. The Ipswich Town Foundation trustee finally netted a hat-trick on the day the club celebrates all the good done in the community by the club’s charity arm. It was fitting but also felt a long time in the making, after six braces this season. His first two finishes were superb and highlight all that’s good about his game, with the third a chance he couldn’t miss. He could have had more, finding space time and again from set-pieces and having efforts blocked, while his all-round game was top notch, too. He deserves great credit for not touching Freddie Ladapo’s fourth goal as it made its way towards the net. Plenty of players would have. 10
Nathan Broadhead
The attacker produced quality touch after quality touch throughout this game, led by the sublime scooped pass which sent Chaplin away to score his second. Had a shot saved after the break and also kept calm and poked the ball into the path of Chaplin to complete his treble. A player who is showing all the signs suggesting he is too good for this level while acting as a major player in the Blues’ bid to finally escape from it. 9
George Hirst
Another good display from the striker, who battled hard throughout and didn’t give Charlton much opportunity to rest. His best chance of the afternoon was one he really will have wanted to score, though, when he could only turn the ball wide when presented with it by Chaplin. That shouldn’t take away too much from his display, though. 8
Janoi Donacien (for Clarke, 65)
Just like the man he replaced, Donacien was a solid presence on the right side of defence. 7
Freddie Ladapo (for Hirst, 73)
Off the bench and immediately making an impact, producing a superb finish for Town’s fourth goal before showing real persistence for his second. A third looked to be on the way when he was hauled down by Ryan Inniss, who was sent off as a result. 8
Kyle Edwards (for Broadhead, 73)
Some good moments for the attacker, who looked like he was going to score before the ball bounced back off the post and into the path of Davis who scored goal six. 7
Kayden Jackson (for Burns, 73)
Good energy up and down the right flank during a cameo display which saw him help create goal six. 7
Dominic Ball (for Luongo, 78)
More minutes on the pitch for a midfielder who is looking to make up for lost time. 6
