There was a twist in the League One promotion race this evening after a dramatic night of football.
With Ipswich not action, Plymouth are the new leaders following a 2-0 victory at Accrington Stanley, thanks to goals from Matt Butcher and Conor Grant.
But the real drama came at Oakwell, where Barnsley brought Sheffield Wednesday’s 23-game unbeaten run to an end thanks to a 4-2 victory over the Owls.
Devante Cole and former Ipswich striker James Norwood gave the Tykes a two-goal lead, before Lee Gregory scored twice to bring Wednesday level. The hosts took control again when Max Watters scored, before Liam Kitching netted in stoppage time to complete the victory.
The results mean Argyle are now two points clear at the top of the table, with Wednesday slipping to second but holding two games in hand on the new leaders.
Ipswich are three points further back, having played one game more than the Owls, while Barnsley are now three points behind Town, with one game in hand on the Blues.
Town and Barnsley meet on April 25, when a contest originally scheduled for this weekend will be played after the original staging was postponed due to international call-ups.
The postponement means Ipswich aren’t in action until April 1, when Kieran McKenna’s men travel to fifth-placed Derby.
