Ipswich Town beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0 this afternoon. Andy Warren hands out his player ratings.

Christian Walton

The Town keeper, bidding to keep a sixth clean sheet in a row, was called into action early to deny a Conor Bradley shot at his near post, before making a huge contribution as he kept out Dion Charles’ spot kick. Made sure of the record late on with a smart stop to keep out Cameron Jerome. Kicked well, too, given conditions were far from ideal.

Harry Clarke

Stormed through and shot after a one two with Conor Chaplin in the first half as Ipswich had joy down their right side, linking up well with Burns. Battled with Victor Adeboyejo at times, before being replaced in the second half.

Luke Woolfenden

Swept up plenty of balls this afternoon and battled away well against two physical strikers, once again playing an important role as the Ipswich defence broke their record. They are a solid unit.

Cameron Burgess

There were times when Bolton gave Burgess a rough ride, making his left side a target for a spell as they took advantage of Leif Davis getting forward. He was stretched but always did enough, before giving the penalty away after the break. But he produced a brilliant moment when he headed home the goal that sealed the win. It’s just a shame he couldn’t celebrate with supporters, with the lower tier empty and the away fans housed high up above. A tough afternoon at times but the big defender deserves great credit for the way he played through it.

Leif Davis

Got forward on plenty of occasions but was occasionally caught with quick Bolton balls, trying to get in behind. Had a lot of ground to cover but did it well, as usual, defending well, providing the left-sided threat in attack and delivering the cross from a corner which led to Burgess’ goal.

Sam Morsy

Another captain’s performance from Morsy, who was excellent throughout this game, using all of experience to do all required of him. Put his foot in when he needed to, kept it out when it risked a dreaded 10th yellow card, and made sure he used his body well to land on loose balls. Superb.

Massimo Luongo

Alongside Morsy, the Aussie was at the heart of this Ipswich victory, just as he has been during his time in the side of late. Solid on the ball, using it well and giving Ipswich both drive and grit. Another top performance.

Wes Burns

Back in the starting XI and worked tirelessly during his time on the field, getting up and down the pitch alongside Clarke to threaten the Wanderers defence and keep things tight at the back. His run from his own box to the edge of Bolton’s, before delivering a composed cross to Hirst, was superb. It laid the platform for this win.

Conor Chaplin

Battled away throughout this game, getting on the ball and looking to open things up for others while also having an effort of his own fire wide. An excellent one-two saw him release Clarke for a first half chance. Was replaced on the hour.

Nathan Broadhead

Had some neat touches to try and create openings throughout this game. Looked exhausted towards the end of his time on the pitch but kept on running, having a shot saved late on.

George Hirst

Worked extremely hard and did all he could to work a way around big Ricardo Santos, before finishing superbly to give the visitors the lead. Ran all day, battled all day and left the pitch to a standing ovation on 75 minutes as he hobbled off after suffering with cramp, having scored an excellent goal.

Marcus Harness (for Chaplin, 62)

On just after the hour and put himself in good positions, having one low shot saved and firing another wide which could have well-and-truly killed the game. Played a good part in Ipswich keeping control of this game.

Janoi Donacien (for Clarke, 62)

On to give his side some added steel as they defended their lead. He did that. 7

Freddie Ladapo (for Hirst, 76)

Gave his side a presence when he came on and replaced Hirst for the final 15 minutes.

Kayden Jackson (for Burns, 87)

On for the closing stages and did a good job of taking the ball to the corner to see this game out. n/a
