Ipswich Town beat MK Dons 1-0 this afternoon. Andy Warren hands out his player ratings.
Christian Walton
Made two brilliant saves to deny Sullay Kaikai as Ipswich defended a flurry of shots to keep an incredible goalmouth scramble out of their net on 10 minutes. Did everything required of him during the game before holding Josh McEachran’s free-kick in the closing moments. 8
Harry Clarke
The right-sider was the man who gave away possession, leading to the previously-mentioned scramble, but he was solid throughout the rest of the game, defending well and making space for himself to attack more and more as Town took control after the break. 7
Luke Woolfenden
Both Woolfenden and Burgess were solid for the Blues this afternoon, with the No.6’s best moment undoubtedly coming when he came across well to brilliantly block Jonathan Leko’s shot on the line. He had no right to get there. Managed the rest of the game well. 8
Cameron Burgess
Like Woolfenden, Burgess also made a good block during that crazy flurry of chances early on, as he stopped Mo Eisa’s effort from troubling Walton. Made a succession of good headed clearances during the rest of the contest, reading the game well throughout. 8
Leif Davis
Got up and down the left flank well and was more-and-more involved after the break, creating dangerous moments and having a shot of his own saved. 7
Sam Morsy
A very good performance from the skipper here, even if you took his excellent goal out of the equation. He kept things solid for his side and was able to attack the box more than he has been doing of late, which proved important to his side. He showed good awareness to intercept the ball before advancing and firing home what proved to be the winner. A captain’s display. 9
Cameron Humphreys
In a game where the ball spent a fair amount of time in the air, the youngsters tried his best to get his ball down and play, with some attempted angled balls out to the right. Was booked soon before half-time, when he was replaced. 6
Wes Burns
The Welshman got himself into some good positions in this game and looked to attack the box when he could, but the final ball was often lacking. No shortage of hard work or ideas, as he looked to work openings for others, including one clever header which nearly set Conor Chaplin away. 6
Conor Chaplin
Was a livewire for the visitors here, whipping an early shot wide and continuing to try to test the MK goalkeeper throughout, having another effort saved. Ipswich looked at their most dangerous when Chaplin was able to combine with others and work his way towards goal in the middle of the pitch. 7
Nathan Broadhead
The former Everton man has delivered the good for Town at Portman Road of late but was a little more quiet here, especially in the first half. Worked to try and get himself into the game and showed flashes of quality throughout, while shooting over when he should have done better after a Morsy shot was pushed out to him. Also had a header cleared off the line by Josh McEachran. 6
George Hirst
A good shift from the striker, who worked hard throughout and put his body about to try and fight for possession, fighting to give his side a platform. Had some clever touches and good linking moments, while also firing in a dipping shot which was saved at the start of the second half. 8
Massimo Luongo (for Humphreys, 46)
On at the break and got up to speed almost immediately, putting his foot in at important moments while also showing some very good touches as Town looked to attack. It feels like the Aussie is going to be an important player between now and the end of the season. 8
Kayden Jackson (for Burns, 72)
Worked up and down the right flank and flashed a header over the top as he met a ball inside the box. 6
Freddie Ladapo (for Hirst, 72)
Held the ball up well on a few occasions to help Town relieve some pressure. 6
Janoi Donacien (for Clarke, 90)
On to help the defensive effort in the closing stages. n/a
Marcus Harness (for Broahead, 90)
Kept the ball well on a couple of occasions to help the effort at the end. n/a
