Former Ipswich Town player and current Colchester United boss Matt Bloomfield is reportedly set to replace Gareth Ainsworth as manager of Wycombe Wanderers.
Felixstowe-based Bloomfield, 39, came through the youth ranks at Town but was released with just one first team appearance to his name.
The midfielder went on to make 558 appearances for Wycombe, becoming a trusted first team coach alongside the long-serving Ainsworth towards the end of his playing days.
Having also done some academy coaching at Ipswich, he was appointed manager of Colchester United last September and has transformed the fortunes of the struggling Essex club, six wins from the last 12 games moving them away from the League Two relegation zone.
Ainsworth's 11-year stint in charge of the Chairboys is now set to come to end, with it being widely reported that he is set to replace the recently sacked Neil Critchley at Championship strugglers QPR. Ainsworth played and coached at QPR earlier in his career.
The Guardian reports that Wycombe are already 'closing in' on Bloomfield as his successor.
