Ipswich Town youngster Tete Yengi has joined promotion-chasing League Two club Northampton Town after signing a new contract at Portman Road.

The versatile Australian forward, who was due to be out of contract at Portman Road this summer, has penned a deal until 2024, with the club holding an option to extend that by a further 12 months.

He joins a Northampton side who are currently third in the League Two table under Jon Brady's management.

The 22-year-old joined the Blues from Australian side Newcastle Jets in September 2021 following a trial, appeared regularly for the club's Under-23s and has recently returned from an impressive loan spell at Finnish top-flight club Vaasan Palloseura.

Asked about Yengi earlier this month, Blues boss Kieran McKenna said: "He's a talented boy, has got some good attributes, both physically and technically, and he's obviously had a good loan spell.

"We've had some interest in him from English clubs and also from abroad. We're keeping that situation open at the minute.

"He's trained with us quite a bit and we want to carefully plot out his next move."

The EADT and Ipswich Star understands that League Two leaders Leyton Orient were among those to have shown interest.
