Supporter group Blue Action are moving to a new area of Portman Road for Ipswich Town’s FA Cup tie with Burnley.

The group, who have worked to try and improve the Portman Road atmosphere in recent years, have traditionally been located in Section 6 of the lower North Stand, close to the Cobbold Stand, and have been looking at the possibility of moving to a more central position behind the goal.

But, for the game with Vincent Kompany’s Clarets on January 28, they have announced they will be moving to Block A of the Cobbold Stand, in the corner linking with the North Stand.

“For the FA Cup fourth round game against Burnley on January 28 the group will be located in Block A of the Cobbold Stand,” the group wrote on social media.

“Following on from our recent survey, we are aware that any attempt to move into Section 5 will be met unfavourably by many people. While we still believe that having an organised group behind the goal would help with the cohesion of the singing in the North Stand, we don't want to upset any long-standing season ticket holders in the area. We therefore need to consider another part of the ground where we can still have an impact on the atmosphere.

“We think Block A offers many advantages; not least the better acoustics in the corner and under the old roof. We should still be able to link up with the North Stand and envision both stands bouncing off each other, which would create more noise around the ground.

“The North Stand is our traditional end, but with the way it was rebuilt, it is limited in the output it can create, particularly from the lower tier. Having another singing section in that corner should help spread songs further, and hopefully get the whole stadium singing as one again.

“Moving there offers a fresh start and space to grow, something that we cannot do where we are currently located. If the trial goes well we hope to convince the club to make it a permanent thing.

“This would also help put a stop to the conflict that arises from us waving flags and holding banners up in Section 6, which we know some people aren't keen on. We would hope that anyone joining us would want to support the team the same way we do - with constant noise and colour.

“We would encourage anyone and everyone, young and old, that wants to help improve the atmosphere at Portman Road to get involved and join us at the Burnley game.”

Tickets for Town’s game with Burnley, which kicks off at 3pm, are on sale now, costing £15 for adults, £10 for seniors and Under 23s and £5 for supporters under 19.
