Christian Walton

Made a good early stop from Niall Ennis and will have been relieved to see Ryan Hardie hit his bar, before having little chance with Bali Mumba’s equaliser, which deflected off Cameron Burgess on its way towards the top corner. Had some kicking issues during this game, with one closed down but landing safely and some difficulties while the Blues looked to play in tight areas. Those issues are not all on him. 6

Janoi Donacien

Town’s right-sided defender was penned back for long spells of this game but was part of a defence which, in the main, dealt with Plymouth well enough. Had a few moments where short balls around the backline were lost and, like the rest of his defence, he will be grateful Hardie wasn’t able to gobble up his chance.

Luke Woolfenden

A good display from the defender who remained calm throughout, swept up when he needed to and tracked runners well, earning particular praise from his manager after the game. Most notable, of course, was the beautiful touch he played into the path of Wes Burns, who lashed home the opener. 7

Cameron Burgess

The centre-half defended well throughout this game despite pressure from the Plymouth attackers, who stretched Ipswich. Made some good interventions, had a header of his own cleared in the Argyle box and was unfortunate to see Mumba’s late shot deflect up off his out-stretched foot and into the top corner.

Leif Davis

A busy afternoon for the left-sider, who was up and down throughout and looked to cross into dangerous positions when he could. Produced a brilliant block to stop a Niall Ennis shot, played a beautiful ball to tee up Marcus Harness for a shot which hit the bar and was involved in the Ipswich goal.

Sam Morsy

The Town skipper poured everything he had into this game and, when replaced late on looked to have nothing left. He worked hard, consistently drove through the middle of the pitch and looked to create and made Plymouth keeper Michael Cooper work with a couple of efforts from range. Finished the game playing as a left-sided attacker.

Lee Evans

The Welshman kept the team moving when he could, looking to work the ball wide or into dangerous areas. He and Morsy had a fun battle with opposite numbers Adam Randall and Jay Matete.

Wes Burns

The Welshman’s fifth League One goal of the season looked like it would be the winner. His strike beat Michael Cooper for power and was fired in with precision, showing just how good a finisher he can be. Didn’t always deliver the required ball from crossing areas but made some important defensive contributions early in the game.

Conor Chaplin

Chaplin worked hard throughout this game and kept pushing right to the end, with the attacker particularly effective when getting the ball in tight situations and looking to turn his man before driving forward. Had a few moments where he took up good positions without being picked out by team-mates, as well as penalty appeals for a James Wilson handball turned down.

Marcus Harness.

The attacker’s most memorable moment from this game saw him hit the bar after being found in space by an excellent Davis cross. Harness had some good moments in this game and some not so good ones, but was a threat as he looked to turn his man and connected with team-mates well.

Freddie Ladapo

Started this game like a train, offering his side a real outlet with good movement, hard work and strength as he stretched the Plymouth back line. Had a couple of efforts of his own but certainly should have squared for Burns during the first-half – the Welshman let him know that in no uncertain terms. Continued to occupy the Plymouth defence, winning the corner which led to Burns’ opening goal, before being replaced by George Hirst.

George Hirst (for Ladapo, 67)

Off the bench for an Ipswich debut, replacing Ladapo, with his first act a low cross which ended with Morsy having a shot tipped wide. Worked hard and tried to make something happen, but had little fall his way.

Cameron Humphreys (for Harness, 67)

Fresh from signing a new deal, the teenager slotted into the middle of the Ipswich midfield in the second half, looking to work the ball. Saw Mumba skip inside him in stoppage time as the Norwich loanee fired home to level.
