Massimo Luongo is excited to get started after returning to Ipswich Town.
The Australian midfielder has signed a deal until the end of the season, as he returns to a club he represented 11 times as a loanee all the way back in 2012.
The 30-year-old has been training with Town for several weeks and is likely to be involved when the Blues face Rotherham in the FA Cup on Saturday.
"I’m very pleased,” he said, in his first interview with the club website after signing.
“It's been 10 years or so, so it's great to be back and I’m just excited to finally get it done and just help the team get promotion.
“The manager (Kieran McKenna) gave me a call and wanted to get me in to try and get the feel for the club and for the players. A lot has changed around the club and when I got the call I thought, ‘for sure, I want to come down’.
“I’ve come from Middlesbrough and he (McKenna) obviously knew (Michael) Carrick really well, so they spoke and decided it would be a good opportunity for me to come here.”
Asked about a potential involvement against the Millers, Luongo said: “I’m ready to go.
“We’ve got this done and I’m looking forward to the FA Cup game, so hopefully I can be involved.
“I’ve come in early so hopefully I can get a head start and get up to speed with the rest of the lads.
“I can’t wait. I’m so excited.”
When asked where he sees himself slotting into McKenna’s system, Luongo said: “I’ve been really impressed with the team, watching from afar.
“Ipswich play with two central midfielders and I guess I will be used as one of them, but I’m just here to try and help the team get promoted. If I’m used for one minute to try and see out a result then it’s for one minute, or if it’s to start a game and continue the good work of the midfielders here then that’s great.
“There’s not a lot I can offer that they haven’t already been doing but I just hope I can add an experience head as someone who has played a few games in this league.
“I’ve noticed a young boy like Cam Humphreys has been playing and I think I can help a lot, leading by example because I love training and I love being out there every day. If any young lads can see the way I conduct myself then that’s a good thing to go off.”
