Former Ipswich Town striker Macauley Bonne has left QPR by mutual consent.

The boyhood Town fan spent last season on loan with the Blues from Loftus Road, making no secret of his desire to return to Portman Road in the summer before ultimately remaining with the Championship club after a deadline day move to Charlton fell through.

He’s barely played for Rangers this season, with his eight substitute appearances in the Championship totaling only 59 minutes.

Bonne has now had his contract with the Hoops terminated, meaning he’s free to find a new club after two-and-a-half years at Loftus Road.

There is likely to be significant League One interest in the 27-year-old, who made a blistering start to his loan at boyhood club Ipswich, before his form in front of goal dropped off dramatically during the second half of the season.

Bonne scored 11 goals in his first 16 Ipswich matches but managed just one in his final 30 games, during a spell where he was in-and-out of the team under boss Kieran McKenna.

There is no suggestion Bonne is a Town transfer target during the January window.

Speaking in the summer, as part of an exclusive interview with the EADT/Ipswich Star, Bonne said: “Kieran McKenna called me in for a chat the day after that last game against Charlton.

“We sat down at the training ground with a coffee and had a good chat. He said he likes me, sees me as a hybrid forward that can do a bit of everything and that Ipswich Town is not a closed book.

“We’ve kept in touch.”

He continued: “If I don’t end up coming back to Ipswich as a player then I’ll be coming back as a fan (which he since has). Whenever there’s an international break, I’ll be back sitting in the stands with the fans. If Town get to Wembley I’ll be there.”
