Captain Sam Morsy believes new signings in January can give Ipswich Town the boost they need as they bid to win promotion this season.

The Blues sit second, heading into the Christmas fixtures, and have shown plenty of reasons to believe they will be firmly in the automatic promotion race come May.

But, with the winter transfer window a little over a week away from opening, the Blues are likely to add to their squad for the second half of the season.

CEO Mark Ashton has insisted Town ‘will leave no stone unturned’ as they look to convert a good start into promotion, with Morsy hoping new signings can add something to his side.

“I think there’s more to come,” the skipper said. “Individually and collectively.

“We’ve got players coming back and I’m sure we will be adding players in January so we’re only going to get stronger.

“In promotion seasons (I’ve been a part of) it always gives you a boost. I know the club have said they want to give us a boost in January, which is important. Any help we can get will be great.”

Discussing Town’s season, which will reach the halfway mark after the Boxing Day clash with Oxford, Morsy said: “The journey we are going on is an exciting one.

“We’re confident. It’s about winning a lot of games and we’ve done that this season, bouncing back and showing resilience when we’ve needed to.

“We’ve done everything you would want in the first half of the season and we just want to keep improving.”

Morsy has started the last seven Ipswich matches alongside teenager Cameron Humphreys and has been impressed with what he’s seen, at a time when Lee Evans and Marcus Harness are on their way back to fitness.

“Cam’s done brilliantly and we shouldn’t consider him as a young player anymore,” he said.

“He’s established himself and done really well. Now he’s there’ competing for a spot.

“It’s nice to have Lee and Marcus back in the group because they have experience at this level and are both good players.”
